Grand Council Treaty #3 extends condolences to the communities of Lac Seul, Wabigoon, Couchiching, Mississaugas of the New Credit and the Six Nations of the Grand River.

On behalf of the Anishinaabe Nation of Treaty #3, Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh expresses his deepest condolences to Lac Seul, Mississaugas of the New Credit and Six Nations of the Grand River. All communities suffered losses this past week.

 

  • Two Lac Seul First Nation men were killed by a Canadian National Railway train last night in Hudson, Ont. Sioux Lookout OPP and CN Police are investigating the accident
  • A female member of Wabigoon First Nation went missing on March 17th and whose body discovered the evening of March 25th
  • An Elder and Veteran from Couchiching passed away March 27th with his funeral on March 30th
  • Two girls from Mississaugas of the New Credit died while traveling home with their youth group outside of Hamilton when a member of Six Nations of the Grand River struck the van carrying the girls, he was killed as a result of the impact

 

Ogichidaa Kavanaugh stated, “We would like to extend our heartfelt prayers to the many communities who are dealing with these tragic losses.  The combined tragedies reverberate throughout all the Nations and our thoughts are with the families at this time.”

 

Grand Council Treaty #3 (GCT3) is the Traditional government of the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3.
