Grand Council Treaty #3 extends condolences to the communities of Naicatchewenin First Nation and Lac La Croix First Nation

On behalf of the Anishinaabe Nation of Treaty #3, Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh expressed his deepest condolences to Naicatchewenin First Nation and Lac La Croix First Nation for the loss of community members in accidents this past week. Lac La Croix also had an elder pass this past week.

Ogichidaa Kavanaugh stated, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and the communities who are coping with this tragic news. When there is a loss in a First Nation community, it is felt by every citizen. Our hearts are heavy but please know that we stand with you during this very difficult time.”

Ontario Provincial Police identified the three people killed over the weekend in Atikokan after a single vehicle collision in the community. A second accident occurred in Couchiching First Nation claiming the lives of two individuals. Amongst the deceased were Treaty #3 citizens.

Grand Council Treaty #3 (GCT3) is the Traditional government of the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3.
